Are you watching any of the Olympic Trials? Did you know we have THREE of our members competing for a spot? Bryce, Liam, and Wendy of the Sierra Marlins are trying to make the team!
The Marlins are the 5th best competitive swim team in the nation. Based right here in Folsom, the Sierra Marlins have a long history success, and kids drive for miles around to compete on this team.
The team has been with us for years and most of you have seen them coming in and out. Their coach, Scott Shea, who is also a member, wanted to share the kids recent successes:
Thank you CFFL!
Many of you have seen the Marlins swimmers at the gym the past few years (as well as some of our coaches). Our TEAM (CFFL and the Marlins) have been working hard and we would like to share some of our success. Our gym is a huge part of our success.
The past 2 weeks we’ve had athletes from Bella Vista, Granite Bay, Oakridge, Mira Monte, Woodcreek, Oakmont, St. Francis, Jesuit, Folsom, Ponderosa, Amador, and Vista Del Lago competing at their Section and State Championships. Our Section ranges from Benicia to Napa, down to Merced, and up to Auburn.
We had so many best times and top notch performances. Our team had over 50 swimmers at sections, including 34 finalists (that is swimmers…not swims!), 9 state qualifiers, 6 champions, and 3 new record holders!
In the 200 Free, the Marlins had 4 of the 8 finalists including champion Liam O’haimirgin and runner up Bryce Mefford. Terry Johnson and Colby Mefford finished 4th and 5th. Our girls finished 4th, 10th, and 15th in the 200 IM, while Ethan claimed the Victory on the men’s side.
Nicole Garcia finished 6th and Alex 12th in the 100 fly. Bryce won the men’s 100 fly in a new championship record, Terry finished 4th, and Greg, Riley, and Thomas finished 9,10,11. Chloe Clark swam to a quick 2nd place finish (in a time that made her the 10thfastest 13-14 girl in US history!). Liam swept his races wining the 100 in new meet record time. Shane Dennison finished 9th in the 500. Ethan and Colin finished 3rd and 7th in the 100 breast.
In another highlight swim Chloe won the 100 back in the 7th fastest time in US history (13-14, right behind Missy Franklin). Jennifer Lathrop finished 3rd, and Dasha Pastushenko 5th. Colby picked up the win on the mens side. Both winners are Freshman and have 3 more years to keep racing!
The California State High School championship meet in Clovis was a great success for the Marlins as well. This is only the second year California has had a state championship. Chloe Clark, Ethan Dillard, Nicole Garcia, Terry Johnson, Jennifer Lathrop, Arden Ma, Bryce Mefford, Colby Mefford, Liam O’haimhirgin, Finn O’haimhirgin, and Colin Reave, all made the trip to Clovis for the meet. Everyone contributed to their teams success.
We had 3 State Champions; Ethan – 200 IM, Bryce – 100 Fly, Liam 100 Free. We also had 2 runner ups – Chloe 100 Back, Liam, 200 Free, as well as 5 other finals swims by Bryce, Ethan, Chloe, Nicole, and Jenn!
We would not be where we are today without the help of our CFFL family.
It’s great to be a part of such a wonderful community!
